Name of the Patient : Abc Xyzant V. Jlmn / M / 52 yrs.
Referred by : Dr. Abc Xyzvade.
Examination : M.R.I. of the Right Ankle.
CLINICAL PROFILE :
H/O fall with twisting of the right ankle.
C/O pain in the right ankle since then.
EXAMINATION :
M.R.I. of the right ankle was performed using the following parameters :
3 mm thick T1 Weighted and GRASS sagittal images.
4 mm thick T1 Weighted and STIR coronal images.
4 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted (with fat saturation) axial images.
OBSERVATION :
There are areas of intermediate signal intensity on the T1 Weighted images which turn heterogeneously hyperintense on the T2 Weighted, GRASS and STIR images within the Achilles tendon. This is seen to extend from its insertion to the calcaneum upto a distance of approximately 10.0 cms cranially. Also seen is a gap (hypointense on the T1 Weighted images and hyperintense on the T2 Weighted, GRASS and STIR images suggestive of fluid) within the lateral aspect of the tendon. However a portion of the tendon is visualized medially.
The visualized bones around the right ankle joint are unremarkable. There is no effusion within the right ankle joint per se.
IMPRESSION :
The MRI features are suggestive of a partial tear of the Achilles tendon of the right ankle as described.
