Name of the Patient : Abc Xyz Chlmn / M / 19 yrs.
Referred by : Dr. Abc Xyzkhtyar.
Examination : M.R.I. of the Brain.

CLINICAL PROFILE :

Known C/O neurocysticercosis.
For follow-up.

EXAMINATION :

M.R.I of the brain was performed using the following parameters :

5 mm thick T1 Weighted, proton and T2 Weighted axial images.

3 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted coronal images.

5 mm thick T1 Weighted sagittal images.

OBSERVATION :

There is evidence of a conglomeration of lesions in the left parietal region, measuring approximately 6.0 x 11.0 x 9.0 mms. It is hyperintense to CSF with a hypointense rim on the proton and T2 Weighted images (not well-identified on the T2 Weighted images).

Another, suspicious lesion, measuring about 1.5 x 0.9 cms is noted infero-medial to the above described lesion (scans 105.9-10).

Hypointense areas on the T2 Weighted images which turn hyperintense on the proton and T2 Weighted images are seen adjacent to this lesion and would represent edema. Also seen is effacement of the adjacent cerebral cortical sulci and indentation upon the occipital horn and atrium of the left lateral ventricle.

The right lateral, third and the fourth ventricles are normal. The basal cisternal spaces are unremarkable. There is no shift of the midline structures. No obvious vascular anomaly is identified on this study.

IMPRESSION :

The MRI features are suggestive of a conglomeration of lesions in the left parietal region and measuring approximately 6.0 x 11.0 x 9.0 mms. These most likely represent granulomas following the signal characteristics of cysticercii in the colloid-vesicular stage. Another, suspicious lesion, is seen infero-medial to the above described lesion.

As compared to the previous MRI (study no:00005) dated 00.00.0000, there is a slight decrease in the size of the lesions and an increase in the degree of edema.

A contrast enhanced scan would be worthwhile.
