Name of the Patient : Abc Xyzalmn / M / 62 yrs.
Referred by : Dr. Abc Xyzik / Dr. Abc Xyzelima.
Examination : M.R.I. of the Left Lower Leg.
CLINICAL PROFILE :
C/O stiffness with swelling over the left calf.
EXAMINATION :
M.R.I. of the left lower leg was performed using the following parameters :
5 mm thick T1 Weighted and STIR coronal images.
5 mm thick T1 Weighted and GRASS sagittal images.
9 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted (with fat saturation) axial images.
OBSERVATION :
There is evidence of a fairly well-defined mass lesion within the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle of the left leg. Its superior apex is seen to lie just below the level of the left knee joint. The lesion measures approximately 7.0 x 3.0 x 18.5 cms.
This lesion is hyperintense to normal muscle but hypointense to fat on the T1 Weighted images and turns hyperintense to both on the STIR, GRASS and T2 Weighted images. Few areas within it are hypointense on all the pulse sequences and may represent fibrous material/paramagnetic substances.
Hyperintense signal within the subcutaneous soft tissues on the T2 Weighted images at the posterior aspect of the visualized left leg may represent edema.
The rest of the visualized muscles and the visualized left tibia and left fibula are unremarkable. The neurovascular bundle in the visualized left leg are unremarkable.
The medial compartment of the left knee joint is decreased in height with periarticular osteophytes. A left knee joint effusion is also noted.
IMPRESSION :
The MRI features are suggestive of a mass lesion measuring approximately 7.0 x 3.0 x 18.5 cms within the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle of the left leg as described. This most likely represents a neoplastic process (? sarcoma).
