Name of the Patient : Abc Xyzlmn / F / 21 days.
Referred by : Dr. Abc Xyzthalani.
Examination : M.R.I. of the Brain.
CLINICAL PROFILE :
C/O seizures since the age of 6 days.
EXAMINATION :
M.R.I of the brain was performed using the following parameters :
4 mm thick T1 Weighted, proton and T2 Weighted axial images.
3 mm thick FLAIR coronal images.
4 mm thick T1 Weighted sagittal images.
OBSERVATION :
There is evidence of a hypointense signal on the T1 Weighted images in the brainstem, which appears hyperintense on the proton and T2 Weighted images. The normal myelination pattern in the posterior fossa in the dorsal brainstem and middle cerebellar peduncles is not visualized. Slight bright signal of the optic tracts at the level of the midbrain is noted bilaterally on the T1 Weighted images. The posterior limbs of the internal capsule and the white matter in the centrum semiovale bilaterally also do not show normal myelination pattern.
The lentiform nuclei and the thalami show normal signal intensity characteristics.
Both the lateral, third and the fourth ventricles are normal. The basal cisternal spaces are unremarkable. There is no shift of the midline structures. No obvious vascular anomaly is identified on this study.
There is no obvious haemorrhage within the brain on this study.
IMPRESSION :
Delayed myelination pattern for the patients age in the posterior fossa, brainstem, posterior limbs of the internal capsules and the centrum semiovale, bilaterally as described. This may be a sequelae of hypoxic-ischemic insult. The lentiform nuclei and thalami, show normal signal characteristics.
A follow-up scan is recommended.
