Name of the Patient : Abc XyzZ. Mlmn / M / 45 yrs.
Referred by : Dr. Abc Xyzhta.
Examination : M.R.I. of Both Hips.
EXAMINATION :
M.R.I of both hips was performed using the following parameters :
5 mm thick T1 Weighted and STIR coronal images.
5 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted (with fat saturation) axial images.
5 mm thick Proton density sagittal images.
OBSERVATION :
There are diffuse areas of hypointensity on the T1 Weighted images which turn hyperintense on the T2 Weighted and STIR images within the head and neck of the left femur. There is slight atrophy of the muscles around the left hip joint. The double line sign is not visualized.
A focal area of hypointensity on all the pulse sequences is seen within the left femoral head and this may represent a bone island.
The right femoral head and the acetabulum reveal normal signal intensity bilaterally. The articular cartilages are unremarkable. There is no effusion within both the hip joints.
IMPRESSION :
The MRI features are suggestive of altered signal within the head and neck of the left femur. This may represent :
1. Early avascular necrosis.
2. Transient Osteoporosis.
A follow-up scan may be worthwhile, to differentiate the above.
