Name of the Patient : Abc Xyzslmn / M / 37 yrs.
Referred by : Dr. Abc Xyzoshi.
Examination : M.R.I. of the Left Foot.
CLINICAL PROFILE :
Alleged H/O injury to the left toe with swelling since then.
EXAMINATION :
M.R.I of the left foot was performed using the following parameters :
4 mm thick T1 Weighted and GRASS sagittal images.
4 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted (with fat saturation) axial images.
5 mm thick T1 Weighted and STIR coronal images.
The right foot was screened with T1 Weighted sagittal images and T1 Weighted and STIR coronal images.
OBSERVATION :
There are diffuse, irregularly defined areas of hyperintensity on the T2 Weighted, STIR and GRASS images involving the flexor digitorum longus and brevis muscles, lumbricals, adductor hallucis muscle and probably a portion of the flexor hallucis brevis muscle. These muscles are seen to be involved at the level of the metatarsals and the metatarso-phalyngeal joints, more so centrally and laterally.
A hyperintense signal on the STIR images is seen within the dorsal subcutaneous soft tissues overlying the second to fifth metatarsals. This is mildly hypointense on the T1 Weighted images and may represent soft tissue edema.
..2/.
- 2 - Scan-00007
The visualized tarsal and metatarsal bones show normal signal characteristics.
No obvious bone destruction is evident on this scan.
IMPRESSION :
The MRI features are suggestive of :
1. Areas of altered signal involving the flexor digitorum longus and brevis muscles, lumbricals, adductor hallucis muscle and probably a portion of the flexor hallucis brevis muscle and this may represent myositis.
2. Altered signal within the subcutaneous soft tissues overlying the second to fifth metatarsals may represent soft tissue edema.
