Name of the Patient : Abc Xyz G. Thalmn / M / 43 yrs.
Referred by : Dr. Abc Xyzhah.
Examination : M.R.I. of Both Hips.
CLINICAL PROFILE :
C/O pain in the left hip region.
EXAMINATION :
M.R.I of both hips was performed using the following parameters :
5 mm thick T1 Weighted and STIR coronal images.
5 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted (with fat saturation) axial images.
5 mm thick Proton density sagittal images.
OBSERVATION :
There are ill-defined, hypointense areas on the T1 Weighted images within the head and neck of the left femur, anteriorly. This is seen to turn hyperintense on the T2 Weighted and STIR images. The cortex appears to be intact. A minimal effusion is seen within the left hip joint.
The right femoral head and the acetabulum reveal normal signal intensity. There is no obvious bony destruction or erosions noted. The articular cartilages are unremarkable.
The musculature of the left hip joint is atrophic as compared to the right.
The visualized pelvis is normal.
IMPRESSION :
Altered signal within the head and neck of the left femur most likely represents transient ischemic osteoporosis.
A follow up scan would be worthwhile.
