Name of the Patient : Abc Xyzakala Slmn / F / 24 yrs.
Referred by : Dr. Abc Xyzah.
Examination : M.R.I. of the Sella & Perisellar Region.
CLINICAL PROFILE :
C/O occasional diplopia.
EXAMINATION :
M.R.I of the sella and perisellar region was performed using the following parameters :
3 mm thick T1 Weighted and STIR coronal images.
3 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted sagittal images.
The brain was screened with 5 mm thick T2 Weighted axial images.
After administration of contrast the following parameters were used :
3 mm thick T1 Weighted coronal and sagittal images.
The brain was screened with 5 mm thick T1 Weighted axial images with magnetization transfer.
OBSERVATION :
The anterior pituitary gland appears normal in height. It is relatively hypointense as compared to the normal gland on the T1 Weighted images and appears slightly hyperintense on the T2 Weighted images. The pituitary stalk is in the midline. There is slight herniation of the infundibular recess into the sella. The normal hyperintense signal of the posterior pituitary gland on the T1 Weighted images, is not well-visualized on this study. The cavernous sinuses and the suprasellar cistern are unremarkable.
The visualized optic nerves show normal signal intensity. The visualized orbits are unremarkable.
Mucosal thickening is noted in the right maxillary antrum with slight hypertrophy of the right middle and inferior nasal turbinates.
After administration of contrast, the anterior pituitary gland seems to enhance peripherally. The pituitary stalk also enhances after contrast administration. No abnormal enhancement is noted in the region of the cavernous sinuses on either side.
The visualized brain parenchyma is unremarkable.
IMPRESSION :
As compared to the previous MRI (study no:00004) dated 00.00.00, there is decrease in the size of the pituitary gland. A central necrotic area may still be persistent in the anterior pituitary gland on the present study. No abnormal enhancement is noted in the right cavernous sinus on the present study. There is also slight decrease in the size of the lateral ventricles on this study.
