Name of the Patient : Abc Xyz Almn / M / 17 yrs.
Referred by : Dr. Abc Xyzar.
Examination : M.R.I. of the Right Ankle & Foot.
CLINICAL PROFILE :
C/O pain and swelling over the right ankle region.
EXAMINATION :
M.R.I. of the right ankle and foot was performed using the following parameters :
5 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted (with fat saturation) axial images.
4 mm thick T1 Weighted and STIR coronal images.
4 mm thick T1 Weighted sagittal images.
OBSERVATION :
There is a large, well-defined lesion in the distal third of the right tibia which measures approximately 5.6 x 2.0 x 2.8 cms. This lesion has mixed signal intensity characteristics with predominant hyperintense areas on the T1 Weighted images which is seen to turn hyperintense on the T2 Weighted and STIR images. A small area which is hypointense on the T1 Weighted images and turns hyperintense on the T2 Weighted images. This lesion is seen to have clear zone of transition with the normal marrow. Few septae are noted within this lesion.
Expansion of the fibula is noted in the distal third. No obvious bone destruction or erosion is evident.

The visualized tendons and ligament show normal signal intensity. No joint effusion is evident. The visualized soft tissues are unremarkable.
IMPRESSION :
The MRI features are suggestive of a large, well-defined lesion in the lower one third of the right tibia measuring 5.6 x 2.0 x 2.8 cms. The differential diagnosis would include :
1. Aneurysmal bone cyst.
2. Simple bone cyst.
No investigations were available for comparison.
