Name of the Patient : Abc Xyz lmn / F / 1 1/2 yrs.
Referred by : Dr. Abc Xyzah.
Examination : M.R.I. of the Brain.
CLINICAL PROFILE :
C/O weakness of right half of the body since 9 months.
EXAMINATION :
M.R.I of the brain was performed using the following parameters :
5 mm thick T1 Weighted, proton and T2 Weighted axial images.
5 mm thick FLAIR coronal images.
5 mm thick T1 Weighted sagittal images.
OBSERVATION :
There is volume loss in the left cerebral hemisphere with an ill-defined hyperintense signal on the proton, T2 Weighted and Flair images in the periventricular white matter in the left fronto-parietal region. Resultant ex-vacuo dilatation of the left lateral ventricle is noted. The cerebral cortical sulci in the left cerebral hemisphere are seen to reach upto the lateral margins of the left lateral ventricle. There is thinning of the posterior body and splenium of the corpus callosum.
Areas of terminal myelination are noted in the right posterior parietal periventricular white matter.
There is mild fullness of the right lateral and third ventricles.
The fourth ventricle is normal. The basal cisternal spaces are unremarkable. There is no shift of the midline structures. No obvious vascular anomaly is identified on this study.
IMPRESSION :
Volume loss in the left cerebral hemisphere with altered signal in the periventricular white matter in the left fronto-parietal region, with ex-vacuo dilatation of the left lateral ventricle and thinning of the posterior body and splenium of the corpus callosum is most likely the sequelae of a previous vascular insult.
